Gigabyte P57Wv5 review

Although Gigabyte may be more renowned for its range of desktop motherboards and graphics cards, it has more recently become deservedly well-known for its variety of gaming-focused laptops.

Following up from the notable Gigabyte P55K V4 we looked at last year, the Taiwanese manufacturer brought a new selection of gaming laptops to CES 2016, the pick of which may well be the 17.3-inch Gigabyte P57Wv5.

Although it may not be quite as slim, light, or pack quite the graphical processing power of the top-end Gigabyte P37X, the P57W has more than enough to chew through any game you might throw at it. Under the hood, a speedy combination of the latest Intel Core i7-6700HQ Skylake processor and Nvidia GTX 970M graphics rivals most desktop gaming rigs for power.

Gigabyte P55K V4

Serious gaming on PCs has never been a particularly cheap hobby, but as powerful desktop rigs have become more affordable, so too have gaming laptops that pack enough power to satisfy all your gaming needs.

Gigabyte may be better known for its quality desktop motherboards than its laptops, but after releasing the less powerful Gigabyte P35K V3 into the wild earlier in the year, it’s back once again with the Gigabyte P55K V4. Featuring an Intel Core i7 CPU coupled with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M GPU, you can expect impressive performance at a bargain price that undercuts the HP Omen’s price tag considerably.

Whilst the specifications may be good value for money, there is just enough detail in the P55K’s design for it to stand out from other non-descript portable powerhouses and make it a genuinely appealing gamer’s machine.

Nostalgia of a Gamer

sonicSo, I have downloaded a classic on Xbox live and opened up a door to the past emotions created by great games. There are events throughout your life that stick with you and change you, for better or worse. Games are no exception. They have been a large part of my life since I was young, and some of the great titles have stuck with me. They have taught me morals, history, and aided many an hour of procrastination.

Why do I get bored of games so quickly?

0

It was Christmas 1990. I had just got my breath back after running round my parents house at break-neck speed to celebrate my elation at receiving the toy of my dreams – The Nintendo Game Boy. Having been launched just 3 months prior to Christmas, Nintendo had given me just enough time to marvel in the latest copy of Games-Master magazine at what I hoped ‘Father Christmas’ would bring me.

Hundreds of AA batteries later I was completely hooked on the new generation of console gaming.
